Gary Wells, the founder, has spent the better of 25 years performing tax compliance, research & planning, and controversy (federal and state) work for companies of all sizes.  He was formerly employed by Sallie Mae, Inc., a student loan company, (and its successor Navient Solutions, Inc.) as a leader of its federal tax planning and controversy group for ten years.  In this position, he reviewed and prepared financial institution research, including accounting methods, and lead the IRS audit team. He was a tax vice president for a regional bank headquartered in the Washington, DC area for almost five years. Previously, he spent seven years working for Big 4 accounting firms in the New York and Washington, DC areas.

His primary goal in founding Wells Tax Consulting is to bring high-level service to clients that have not found it among their current tax providers or seek to supplement its current team by adding  another experienced tax resource.  To accomplish this goal, WtC strives to deliver nothing less than complete satisfaction to its clients on every engagement.  WtC will perform the role that the client needs, whether it is as a preparer, reviewer, or manager of the process.  The client defines the role and WtC provides the professional without compromising quality.

Gary recognizes that tax law continues to grow in complexity and he wants to leave each client with a much more robust understanding of both the subject matter and tax significance that flows from it.  He diligently prepares the facts, law and analysis to document and explain the relevant tax issue(s). He has demonstrated his research and writing ability in two previously published articles:

  • “No Longer Solely a Tax Issue: Jobs Creation Act and Recent Regulations Spread the Tax Shelter Reporting Burden Across the Organization for Financial Institutions and Other Taxpayers,” JOURNAL OF TAXATION OF INVESTMENTS, Vol. 22 No. 2, Winter 2005 Edition.
